Is Content Still King? No, Here’s Why

Okay, okay. I know you’ve heard it before.

It’s the #1 belief that anyone who proclaims to know about what “Google Wants” seems to spurt out like the public water fountain when giving others advice on trying to help their website. So what’s changed really? Why are you even searching for whether or not “content is still king”?

Is Content Truly Still King?

Well, I can only imagine a few of the reasons and here’s what I think and you tell me if I’m right

One of the reasons is probably because you’ve spent a ton of time paying writers or “content makers” to follow the rules of Content is King, but only to realize that you’ve spent tons of time and money paying these people to just add this “king-like content” to a site that you own that isn’t really getting that extra traffic from all this added content.

Why is that?

Why isn’t my content being indexed to the top of search?

A: Because your content isn’t really that good.

OR

Your site is very similar in content to a thousand other websites.

content that sucks
Yes, your site sucks. Your content is not engaging your users.

So is content still king then?

Here’s the real answer:

Concept is King

And

Content is the Queen

Just like a chess game, the queen is the most powerful, but the game isn’t lost unless you take the King.

So does that make the “content Queen” more important that the “King of Concept”?

No, but you need both of them in play to have a potential win on your hand.

There are literally thousands of websites that get published daily, in which even more of them are identical in  regards to “types of content” that is being published on them.

concept is king
Make Your Content Stand Out. Don’t Make it Boring. Make a Great Concept for It!

So really where  do you stand out? Where do you deserve more recognition for your content than anyone else?

Most likely is that you don’t but there is one thing that can help you. And that is concept.

And concept comes in several forms.

– User Engagement of said Content

– Visual Presentation of said Content

– What are People (web visitors) Doing with All of Your Content

– Do you Go to The Next Level in Meeting the Needs of Your Visitors with Your Content.

– Branding Your Content as An Authority

So is Content King for SEO?

A: No, it’s not. It’s just one eligible element in marketing your site, and making it consumable by the masses.

The content is king mantra is taken in the wrong context in today’s web. as concept is the new king.

Just browse the web around you, as there are many great sites that offer similar information and content but overshadowed by those that offer a better concept for receiving that information.

So what is your concept to the throne of search engine domination?

  • Content is King 5+ years ago. Now the concept is truly King. I was just was talking with someone today that worked for a company with a “similar content” site, but laid off the entire staff because their lack of concept and application was a major fork in getting them noticed.

  • Thanks for sharing great thoughts, David!

I came here from inbound after your comment on my “google top is useless” discussion.

I never thought on thinking about content not as king, but as queen, just like in chess.

Concerning content’s quality and other stuff like “your content sucks”. That’s right. Check what my colleague thinks about – http://texterra.biz/blog/why-doesn-t-your-content-marketing-work.html

Don’t be afraid, it’s not a too-long-didn’t-read post, just one single sentence that captures the idea of poor content and content marketing 🙂

  • LOL, being from the concrete jungle, I certainly appreciate the short and sweet post that you partner keys in about!
